2 Samuel 22:1-4 (part 2)

Last week we started a set of lessons from 2 Samuel 22. Here are the verses again
2 Samuel 22:1-4 David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him… He said: “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior- from violent men you save me. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. (from NIV)
David starts his “song” with the LORD. We have to start there first also. We need to catch little things in studying just like in racing. The other day one of the guys said a $3 toggle switch had them off the track and of course no one would check that first. So they left that evening and it was not until they got back to the shop when they found it.

I want to stop and think about the little word ‘my’. Is the God of the Bible your God or do you allow something or someone else first place, highest priority in your life. I warn you that you do not want to do that. God, the one and allow God needs to have first place in your life. I reminded the guys this morning at Bible study that we are to be in awe of the Creator of life and the universe. Some religions miss the personal relationship that God wants with us. Don’t miss that relationship. Don’t miss His glory. Take time to look into the little things that could be missing. Don’t miss heaven and the opportunity to worship the LORD for eternity.

2 Samuel 22:1-4 (part 1)

The other day I was thinking about a great set of verses. Let’s spend a few weeks thinking about them.

Here are the verses:
2 Sam 22:1-4 David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him… He said: “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior- … I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. (from NIV)

In racing it is a team sport from driver, to mechanic, to owner, to sponsors…This week let’s think about the beginning of these verses. David was one that struggled with sin as we do. He had several large “missing the mark” issues. Yet we see this passage where he is focused on his God and his Lord. We can learn much from his words, song, prayer. David could see his victory was not because of him or the army, but it came from God. That is just like in racing the driver can not take the credit for the victory. We have to surrender to God to see His victory in our life.
So here are some questions:
Are you seeing God hand at work in your victories?
Are you praising God for what He is doing?
Are you praise God no matter what His answer is?

Set a Mark

  • Draw a Line
  • Drive a Stake
  • Set a Mark

YA!!! We got a race in Friday and it was great racing indeed. With any good set up for a car you have to have a goal. What is the best we can get out of a car and driver? The same is true with following the Lord. We have studied briefly Draw a Line and Drive a Stake now Set a Mark. (by the way the $10 is still unclaimed and the offer still stands). So let’s go back to what we looked at. We know God’s Word is true and we are to hide it in our heart so now how are we going to do it? We Set a Mark of memorize a verse a month so we pick out 12 verses and one by one we work on it. Listen to this great verse:

1 Tim 4:12 but set an example NIV

Maybe the Line is Scripture is true and the Stake is we need to read the Bible. The Mark would be we are going to read 3 times a week and few minutes each day. Maybe it is prayer and we pray 2 minutes a day. Now for someone that is a little more mature in the Lord it is read for half an hour or pray for half a hour. 2 Cor 5:9 So we make it our goal to please him, NIV so Set a Goal.

Drive a Stake

Well two in a row to rain. Remember God is in control. We may not understand, but God is good all the time.

  • Draw a Line
  • Drive a Stake
  • Set a Mark

So last week we talked about “Draw a Line” and knowing what you believe. So let’s take the next step. You decide that the Bible is true, completely true. I believe that is so. So then you read a verse that says -  Ps 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. NIV. So the stake is I believe God’s Word is true and I need to hid it in my heart. It is like in racing. You hear that this is the best kind of brakes so you are going to buy them and not use anything else.

In “Drive a Stake” you declare what you are going to stand on. So go through the list and find verses that support the true.

Here is another example. You say that Philippians 4:8 Finally whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. (NIV) is true. From there you decide what you can and am not going to watch or listen to. You need to “Drive a Stake” in it, take a stand. There is a lot more we can say about this but I will let you bow before God and ask Him to show you. The Holy Spirit WILL teach an open heart.
