Standing In

You know I have spoken this before but let’s go back to it. Sin is like vomit and remaining in sin is like standing in vomit and not getting out and cleaning it up. Now think with me on this. Often when we travel up by Wisconsin Rapids you smell the paper plants. To me, they have a heavy, awful smell. For others it is not as bad. Interestingly after being there a while it is not as bad. The smell really never went away, we just got used to it. The same is true with sin. We can just get used to the sin instead of confessing and repenting of the sin. STOP! Think about that. Is there a sin you need to address like right now!?!

The vomit can be cleaned up. The odor can be dealt with. We just need to put in the work and be obedient. The evil one speaks like it is not that bad; it will not hurt anyone; you can’t stop; you can’t be forgiven.

Jesus says, “I died on the cross for you to be forgiven and I love you much!”

Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Seems like an echo of James 4:14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

We see two things here. 1) an echo of not boasting and 2) we don’t know what is ahead, well for that matter, we often don’t know what truly is happening so be careful with your words and actions and thoughts. Be faithful in the moment. Obey now!

Proverbs 27:2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

DO you pat yourself on the back a lot? DO you secretly place yourself above others? DO you think of yourself as better than others? We see a lot of that. That is not humility or Christ like. God wants us to live out Micah 6:8

Proverbs 27:3 A stone is heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.

Think of a stone, a large stone. Think of a load of sand. If a large load of sand comes down on you, you’re dead. Simple as that. In the same way we should not provoke others. We even need to be careful needling or teasing someone for fun. What if they are having a bad day and that just kind of takes them over the top. Just be careful.

Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?

God says over and over in His Word to be slow to anger. That is a challenge for some of us. I know I can fly off the handle in some circumstances where if I just take a step back or hold my tongue I would be much better off.

Proverbs 27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

This is hard to understand, but think about the one who really loves something, but they don’t want anyone to know about it. Is that right? No it is not. If the person is honest and open this is better yet I yet I know of people who can be this way and are brutally honest or say things unfiltered and it causes trouble and fractured relationships so let’s be careful with this verse.

Proverbs 27: 6-7 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. One who is full loathes honey, but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.

We are back to what do we want? What satisfies us? If you go in the store hungry you usually buy way more that you need. We need to be prepared and we need have the right desires. They need to be the desire of pleasing the LORD. Are you prepared and do you have the right desire?

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
Todd
