Team Work

This past weekend we enjoyed the Go Racing banquet with the Midwest Dash; Great Northern Sportsmen and Mid-American Stock Car divisions. There was a common trend from the opening to special speaker Doug to the champions speeches and capped off by the emotional words of John, Danny’s car owner. It was the importance of team work, when each person comes together working to do the job they have well and focused on a common goal, purpose.

When we look at God we see the team work of God – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Each one together yet separate. The Bible is clear that there is a three in one God. The amazing thing is that all three have the focused pose of praising and exalting each other and a desire for all to come to the point of salvation. That trend of teamwork is seen throughout Scripture. The Father loves us. Jesus died for us to have forgiveness of sin and the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin, seal us and teach us. Don’t miss out on being on the winning team the championship of salvation.

Proverbs 29: 8 Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.
Do you see all the violence around us? There is so much on the news. We need to share the hope of Jesus and His love. We need to stay afar from all the drama that the evil one tries to stir up. Instead we need to turn to Jesus and seek His wisdom and guidance.

Proverbs 29:9 If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.
Such great teaching here. There is no good that comes out of arguing with the fool. Just be still and let God do the work if He wishes to. Now that does not mean we are silent. It means we share the truth and see if there is any openness to the LORD and then hold our words.

Proverbs 29:10 Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless and seek the life of the upright.
Right now one of the hot topics for many church boards including ours is church security. I understand it. I understand one reads this verse and says, “It could be us.” I also think it is different for every church. Yes the Madison area has seen an increase in gun violence like the rest of the nation. I do think we have to be careful not to over react and we need to be sensible. Most of all we need to be in prayer. I have much more to say on this but will hold off at this time.

Proverbs 29:11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.
Can you see how dangerous run-away emotions are? The fool will be driven by emotions and not be able to say “no” to self. On the other side the wise are able to hold their tongue (see Titus 2:10-12). That is only done when the Holy Spirit is guiding and taming our heart and tongue (see James 3:7,8). What a great set of verses!

Proverbs 29:12, 14 If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever.
We see many leaders that fall into this category. Instead of wise counsel they surround themselves with the wicked and those that will just support their ideology. And then we wonder why we the country is corrupt and courts misguided and schools missing the mark. With all this said, it is so important we take a stand on The Rock. It is important we teach what truth is according to God and His Word.

Proverbs 29:13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the Lord gives light to the eyes of both.
God sees all mankind as equal. He has given life to all of us and has made a way to salvation for all. He gives light to all and waits for us to respond to His call. Will you? Have you?

Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
Dobson was right when he titled the book, “Parenting Isn’t for Cowards”. I like to add “for wimps”. Man, this is hard stuff. Here is a good help and worthy to be heeded. Remember we talked about the boundaries of this earlier in Proverbs. We have to have balance and guidelines to never crossover. This verse is another clear one that parents are to set limits and discipline. If not, there are problems for the child and the parent will have a heaviness because parents yearn for their child to know and grow in Christ and live for the LORD. Parents desire for their children to know the blessing of God. Parents desire for their children to be wise in the LORD.

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
Todd
