Sound the Alarm!

Just about every day I hear the screeching alarm going off. Generally a person will scamper the other direction. More times then not the person pauses and reads the bold clear message you see above. I wonder if what they think is, “Oh the alarm won’t really go off” only to be wrong.

WOW!!! What a great picture of God, His Promise, His Word, The Gospel!
Listen carefully to the warning. Hell is real. It is eternal. There is no escape. Luke 16 gives us a clear picture of the torment. Revelation 20 is clear that hell is the lake of fire yet you don’t burn up.

God sounds the alarm in His Word – ALL have sinned (Romans 3:23; 6:23)
There is one way, He provided it – The only way is Jesus (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
The price – Jesus died for your sin and mine (Romans 5:8)
Obey God’s promise – Cry out that Jesus is LORD (Romans 10:9)
Take this action – Say “NO” to self (Titus 2:12) and repent by saying “Yes” to Jesus (Acts 3:19)

God does not want any to perish but for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Don’t ignore this clear warning. Don’t get caught in a religion or follow the crowd. Cry out to Jesus right now.

Proverbs 29: 16 When the wicked increase, transgression increases, but the righteous will look upon their downfall.
Not trying to judge but as I, we, watch this country we see the wicked increase. There is so little care that we have for life. We don’t care that we have pride oozing out everywhere. We don’t care about purity. The sin just abounds everywhere we look. It seems to be spiraling down farther and farther into sin and evil.

Proverbs 29:17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.
I know we have talked about it a bunch prior in Proverbs but again we are reminded about the importance to discipline. Son, how are you going to react to discipline? Will you turn from the sin? Will you change your ways? Not the single action but your thinking and convictions. Here is one of the hard things as I think about this verse and discipline, what we see in our children is often a reflection of the parent – ouch! As you think about that, is there a sin you need to deal with? Stop and take some time to pray and think right now.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
As this country tries to deafen the voice and Word of God, we need to speak out and we need to lovingly and respectfully share the truth and hope that we have as believers and followers of Christ.

Proverbs 29:19 By mere words a servant is not disciplined, for though he understands, he will not respond.
I struggled with this verse. I think of the “mere words” and think of James 1:22 – Not merely listen to the word of God, do what it says. Then I think about “a servant” and think about Jesus calling us to be like He is, a servant. I also think about the end of the verse and how we were just reminded not long ago that often it is better not to respond to attacks because the battle is not of flesh and blood (Eph 6:12).

Proverbs 29:20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Don’t be foolish in your words. Don’t waste them. Don’t just ramble on about the things that have no value. Make your words impactful, impactful for the Kingdom of God, for eternity. Be intentional with your tongue not a loose viper.

Proverbs 29:21 Whoever pampers his servant from childhood will in the end find him his heir.
We coddle and pamper too many today and during the last couple of generations and we are seeing the major damage it is causing. There is a price to pay and sacrifice is a good thing. And now the really tough one – it is good to say no to self and all the comfort and pleasures you want. This generation wants things easy. They seem to warn to not sacrifice. They seem to just want their own way far too often. Now they are not the only generation like that. Each of us should be looking in the mirror and seeing if we fall into any of these bad ways of thinking.

Proverbs 29:22 A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression.
This one hurts. I struggle with being too harsh on the kiddos and my wife and myself too often. I see the damage and continually need to confess it as sin and repent seeking God’s forgiveness. Dear LORD, please do a work in my heart to temper my harshness and be more peaceable and kind. Maybe you too need to join in this prayer?

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
Todd
