This Great Country

So we got off and running! YA! That was some great racing. As I was driving home and thanking God for the safety to the drivers and team I thought about finishing the study we are in, (what are they? ($10 to the first one to come up to me with the three {Draw a Line; Drive a Stake and Set a Mark} and tell me what you are doing with the teaching; by the way I am serious about the $10) and I thought about this weekend and had to praise God for it.

We live in a great country, founded on tremendous principles. Principle found in the Bible and foundation that is firm, but also sacrifices that is great. Each of us knows of those that have fallen to keep this country free and what it is still the greatest nation in the world. Some of us have very close relatives and friends that have died. Some have neighbors. Some even sons and daughters. Some back in the Revolution, some just weeks ago. Some far away and some in our arms. Some this is very hard to read and I pray God comforts and strengthen you as you think about an excruciating pain of lose.

This weekend we honor those that have gone before us. Those that have fought and battled to do what they knew was right, to serve with honor and dignity and loyalty. I thank God and thank God for the men and women who faithfully serve to the ultimate sacrifice.

As I thank God and those men and women I thank the LORD Jesus Christ for setting that example. He came to us and with no sin died for my sin, for our sin. He served faithful, lovely, honorably. He served knowing the sacrifice He would have to make at the hands of those He had created so that they, you and I could have eternal life if we will surrender to His Lordship. He does not ask us just to pray a prayer or show up at church. He wants us to be like a good soldier following their commander and chief. A good soldier can not have his will and self being first. He must serve with the country first, what is right (1). Focused (2)! Alert (3)! Intentional! Eyes fixed (4)!

So this weekend, this week, take some time thanking God, thanking those that serve and have served and thinking about how are you doing as a soldier for the LORD (5). Maybe you conclude you are not a soldier for Christ. I would be glad to open the Word with you and see what God says.

Have a great and safe week and have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,

(1) 2 Cor 8:21 For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.

(2) Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

(3) 1 Peter 5:8-9 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

(4) Heb 12:2-3 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

(5) 2 Tim 2:3-5 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs-he wants to please his commanding officer.

Draw a Line Drive a Stake Set a Mark

YA!!! We got a race in Friday and it was great racing indeed. With any good set up for a car you have to have a goal. What is the best we can get out of a car and driver? The same is true with following the Lord. We have studied briefly Draw a Line and Drive a Stake now Set a Mark. (by the way the $10 is still unclaimed and the offer still stands). So let’s go back to what we looked at. We know God’s Word is true and we are to hide it in our heart so now how are we going to do it? We Set a Mark of memorize a verse a month so we pick out 12 verses and one by one we work on it. Listen to this great verse:

1 Tim 4:12 but set an example NIV

Maybe the Line is Scripture is true and the Stake is we need to read the Bible. The Mark would be we are going to read 3 times a week and few minutes each day. Maybe it is prayer and we pray 2 minutes a day. Now for someone that is a little more mature in the Lord it is read for half an hour or pray for half a hour. 2 Cor 5:9 So we make it our goal to please him, NIV so Set a Goal.

I hope you will take the first step in this today.

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine
