Combine With This

There are some great combinations in racing and in life. In racing we think of the driver, crew chief and team. Think about the combination of the correct tire and air pressure that adds speed. The correct gear to the track and temperature and so on. Then there are combinations like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, rain and seeds, Rogers and Jennings and husband and wife.

God also values combinations. Bible and prayer, Jesus and the cross and the empty grave, rainbows and promises… In Hebrews 4:2 God states,  For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.

Wow, sit back and soak that in. Two groups. 1) One heard the truth, the Word preached. They did not value it. They did not stop and listen and obey. They did not allow God to do a work in their life. They did take a step of faith. It was faith in self. They were stating that, “they could handle it on their own.” That is a disastrous step. It is one that will lead to separation from God for eternity if not turned from prior to death. On the other hand group 2) They heard the truth and combined it with faith. They trusted that Jesus was and is Who He said He was and is. They agreed that all the following is TRUE:

  • Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”
  • John 8:58I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
  • John 1:1-2In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.
  • Revelation 1:8I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

They agreed to reach out to God for salvation once they heard the gospel, that they were sinners, that Jesus died for their sin and rose from the grave, and that those that call on His name and repent are, will be saved.

So which group will you be found in? I pray it is the faithful. Don’t miss this. Not calling out on the LORD is more serious than the worse wreck you can imagine and salvation is better than any victory or championship.

See you at the track soon and have a great day in the SONshine,

Todd
