We all have our favorite numbers. Just ask people or look at their clothing or their car. The big number around here is “17.” I remember when it was 99 and 71 and 7… and down the line. At NASCAR events, the 3, 24, 8 (88) wars are on. People are identified by the number and by the sponsor they follow. What if we did not have numbers and we took away the sponsors? It would be hard to identify the driver we like. You know, too often the church is like that. We just blend in with the rest of the people.
We need to live in such a way that others know who we follow. Philippians 4:8 says: Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. James and others tell us how to live and what a real Christian will look like. Of course we can not just look and act like a Christian, we have to be one.
