What is the most treasured thing in your life? Most of us would point to our loved ones whom God has placed in our life. Many of us involved in racing would point to the car, the tools, the people who get the car on the track and those that help them find speed. Some would look at our most treasured thing being a trophy, jewelry, a boat, some antique, a homes, a business,…
As we come around the corner to chapter 7 of Proverbs we are back to an echo. Verse 1 – My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you. God tells us we are to treasure up God’s commands. Do you? Do you really place a high value on the Bible and what God has to say? What does it impact your life to prove the value the LORD has in your life, in your family?
One of the cutest saying is the child or grandchild that is the “apple of your eye” of a proud Dad or Grandpa. Here we see God want us to have His Word as that apple of the eye. What does that mean? It means what is the central reflection of your eye and your life. So again stop and think, what are you filling your eyes with? Are you filling them with the junk of the world, your flesh or God’s Word? Listen to Proverbs 7:2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye. God so wants to bless you!
How much do you think about racing, about the car, about the track and competition? My guess is that it is fairly consuming. Matter a fact, I guess that there are times you wake up thinking about that next tenth and go to bed think about it and even wake in the night thinking about it. If we were that consumed with the LORD and His Word we would have a lot of changes in our lives and in our families. What holds you back from that kind of commitment to the LORD and His Word? Would you let me know and maybe we can help each other.
God tells us in Deuteronomy how we are to think on the LORD all day and night and to be intentional teaching our children and others around us. Here are some more hints at how to do that. Proverbs 7:3bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. With the invention of the tablet and cell phone many of us do now have the Word on our finger tips J The back half of the verse is the key. God wants us to know His Word but more than that to obey His word out of love in our soul , spirit and heart.
At a lot of tracks to make a pass in the corner you have to drive deep in to the corner. Get underneath the guy. How deep have you driven God’s Word into your life? I know I ask a lot of questions in the messages and I hope you do not just read over them. I hope you really do stop and think about them and you have God examine your heart and life. You may want to go back and re-read some of this or other messages and look at the questions.
Next God goes back to earlier teachings in Proverbs and combines two of the previous subjects. Let’s look at Proverbs 7:4-5 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words. Why is it so important to brace wisdom and God and His Word? It is because we are in a battle against many things of evil but sex and immoral behavior is one of the things at the top list of sin that is permeating our lives and churches in America. I again challenge you to take a stand for purity. The world makes it, lust, sex outside of marriage, sound so good and pleasing. That is a lie. Marriage is the only right place for it.
Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
